Hi,

if i want to use ISA server as a proxy server only for the time being, does it still have to be placed between the internal network and gateway i.e.

internet --- router --- ISA server --- switch ----- workstations

or can i place it on the switch

internet --- router --- switch --- ISA server and workstationa

For proxy, No, just needs a route path configured to the Internet GW. Based from your example, as a recommendation it would be best placed at the edge utilizing all of ISA’s firewall capabilities.
