Hi,

In a test environment i am trying to publish IMAP and SMTP. I have followed the wizard through and the rules show up in the firewall policy. Also the fwengmon.exe utility is showing these as created properly:-

C:\ISA\tools>fwengmon.exe /c

Both the rules don't seem to work. I start to see issues when looking at a netstat

C:\ISA\tools>netstat -na| find "LIST" | find "195.149.121"
TCP    195.149.121.121:25     0.0.0.0:0              LISTENING
TCP    195.149.121.121:139    0.0.0.0:0              LISTENING
TCP    195.149.121.121:1403   0.0.0.0:0              LISTENING
TCP    195.149.121.121:1416   0.0.0.0:0              LISTENING

As you can see the IMAP rules isn't working as its not listening on port 143. Also i can't telnet the exchange server on 143 from the ISA 2006 server. Also, checking the smtp rule (this i can telnet from the isa2006 server) but i see the following when telneting the external IP on port 25.

C:\>netstat -n | find ":25"
TCP    10.10.0.48:5376        10.10.0.6:25           SYN_SENT
TCP    195.149.121.121:25     195.149.121.121:5375   ESTABLISHED
TCP    195.149.121.121:5375   195.149.121.121:25     ESTABLISHED

As you can the connection is established to the ISA server but the connection cannot be made to the internal exchange server.

I am really confused, the network config is setup as an edge firewall.

Any help would be greatfully received

You can ignore the netstat information -- that's useless when evaluating ISA Firewall listeners.

Make sure the SMTP and IMAP services are enabled on the Exchange Server

Make sure that the Exchange Server is a SecureNAT client

Double check for typos in your rule.
