I have started migrating my existing Exchange 2000 installations to Exchange 2003. To do this, I have installed Exchange 2003 to a new server and moved some test mailboxes there. I use ISA 2000 to publish OWA for both internal/external users.
The problem I am facing is the following: When I access a mailbox (as an external client) that is hosted on Exchange 2000 through OWA, I get the network logon screen, I authenticate and access OWA 2000 normally.
When I am trying to access (through the same steps) a test Exchange 2003 mailbox, I get two network logon screens: 1. the first one is for the external server (as published through ISA) 2. as soon as I successfully authenticate, a second network logon screen popups, which requests logon to the internal Exchange (2003) server.
Of course this configuration works when I connect through the internal network (since DNS can resolve the internal server) but when trying to connect as an external client, I obviously get back a DNS error.
Is there some specific configuration setting that I should change at ISA? Is it some problem at the security settings of IIS6.0 (of the Exchange 2003 server)?
Any tips are welcome. Thanks in advance!

I found out that the hosts file was due to the DNS redirect.
HOWEVER: Since I have multiple internal exchange servers, how can I make sure that each mailbox is going to be routed to the correct one? Can I have many records in the hosts file for the same address? Because when I added the record for the Exchange 2003, the Exchange 2000 users could not access their OWA.
Is there any workaround for this?

Hi Yannis,
You're have to publish each one and create the appropriate DNS records to support each server.

That is,
1) create two publications in ISA (OWA 2000, OWA 2003) pointing to the respective server (at the same external URL, http://mail.myserver.com/exchange)
2) did not quite understand what you said about DNS; you mean editing the hosts file of the ISA server or the internal DSN server? (the latter correctly routes messages among the servers). Could you please explain what I should do?
thanks for your rapid feedback and support!
