I am running a back to back ISA 2006 configuration and am trying to implement Sonicwall Email Security on the back end server.  So far I am not having any luck.

I created an SMTP server publishing rule on the front end to forward SMTP to the back end.  This seems to be working.  The SMTP server publishing rule that I created on the back end was being ignored so I created an access rule to allow SMTP.  SMTP gets through now.  I can telnet to port 25 from the outside.  I get the Sonicwall SMTP banner but the connection is dropped immediately.

Any ideas? Does anyone have any experience getting Sonicwall ES working in this type if configuration?

Thanks.

I figured this out on my own.  In order to get this working,  I had to create a publishing rule on the back end server to handle inbound SMTP from the front end AND a network rule on the back end to handle outbound SMTP on the localhost.  The two work together apparently to make this work.  Not sure if I understand why it works but it does work.

Any feedback?

Thanks.
