I am trying to setup a SMTP gateway in my network to reduce the amount of spam/virus making it to my SBS (Mail Server) server. My SBS server is running SP1 with ISA2004. How can I configure SBS/ISA to "forward/route" SMTP traffic to the SMTP gateway server? I then can set the SMTP gateway server to route/relay that SMTP traffic to my mail server via the internal NIC. Any help with this configuration would be appreciated.

The mail must be delivered to the SMTP gateway first. You'll need to change your DNS pointer so that mail gets delivered to the right place.

In ISA you'll publish your mail gateway only if it's going to be behind the ISA server.

Then you'll configure Exchange to pick-up mail from the SMTP gateway.

It should all be in the instructions. When I setup a Symantec SMTP gateway it was.
