Hi,

MSDE (Microsoft SQL server Desktop Engine) is for logging and monitoring. It can be a resource hog so you man need to tame it down a bit. It’s optional if you don’t want to use text file logging.

Hi,

Here’s the issue that you will be facing. If you try to disable it while in use, ISA is going to stop taking requests because it needs MSDE for logging.  Removing it is an option but you need to configure logging to use flat file logging first before you do so. Taming its memory use is another option that I mentioned in my pervious thread to you. I guess it’s a matter of personal preference on what you use but I prefer to use it.

Changing the logging options (Firewall and Web Proxy)  is done using the MSC by  clicking  on Monitoring and selecting Configure Firewall Logging or Web Proxy Logging.

Removing MSDE if you choose to do so can be done by going to Add/Remove programs, select Microsoft ISA, click “change” and when you're prompted, choose "Modify". Expand "Firewall Services" and click "Advanced  Logging" and click and select "This feature will not be available".  Follow the rest of the wizard. MSDE should be uninstalled.
