I had SQL Server configured to run replication via a VPN from one office to another with ISA 2004 as part of Microsoft Small Business Server.  We have since migrated from Small Business Server to a more robust network where SQL server and ISA no longer reside on the same machine as they once did with Small Business Server.

The version of ISA has changed from 2004 to 2006 at the main office, with 2004 still running at the remote office.

The database was SQL 2000 with SMS, and is now SQL 2005.

I can get the VPN to work without issue, the problem I am having is getting the two database to talk to each other.

The external (remote office) server always comes in on the same IP address via the VPN.

I tried to publish the server using the Non web server publishing wizard to no avail.
I have setup access rules to allow sql server(UDP), sql server(TCP), and Microsoft Sql Server pass from all internal to localhost and local on the  ISA server.

Anyone have any other ideas of am I missing something obvious?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a name resolution problem. Can you confirm?

Tom

Tom,

I believe you are correct in you assessment of a name resolution issue.

I have tried adding a record to the host file on the local machine for the remote office IP address that is assigned via ISA but that didn't work either.

Unfortunately, I don't what else to try at this time... can you offer some insight?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Do you have a route or NAT relationship over the site to site VPN?

Tom
