Is it possible to publish an FTP server running on Win2k/2003 behind an ISA server with Secure FTP terminating at the ISA server, and native FTP flowing through to the IIS Server?

I need a native Windows Secure FTP solution to support Kerberos delegation and constrained delegation at the IIS server, with a back-end file share.

Tom, thanks for the great site.

Hi KB,

You could use a Web Publishing Rule to publish the FTP site, but this would allow only FTP downloads. Unfortunately, you can't apply user/group based access controls on Server Publishing Rules.

I actually need a solution for Secure FTP, meaning FTP over SSL. It is starting to become a popular secure trasport for B2B communication.

Microsoft doesn't yet have a solution for FTP over SSL/TLS.

Hi KB,

From what I understand, it still uses secondary connections, like standard FTP, is that right? If so, it would need to be published using the firewall client on the secure FTP server and a wspcfg.ini file on the server. In addition, it would not be able to use the conventional FTP port for the control channel, because the FTP filter would try to protect and control the connection using the FTP access application filter.

How about SCP instead? That is very secure and works very nicely with ISA firewalls. I'm using it now in my office and it works a treat.

HTH,
Tom

Hi Tom,

What is SCP and how is it used similar to a secure FTP? Are you referring to MS Simple Control Protocol? Can it be used for file trnasferring? I've only seen information about it being used for automation.

Thanks,
John
