I have a rather complex routing issue. First, I have a cable modem connected that is used as the primary internet connection. However, I also use and ISDN connection to another network. My ISDN connection is to a windows 2000 RAS server, and I get 30 IP addresses routed to me. With my cable modem I only get 1 ip address. Now, I have ISA server setup to connect to both networks, but I need to do "source routing" for the return path. If a request comes over the ISDN connection, it needs to return using that same route. The servers that are published are in my internal network. How do I get an incomming request routed back over the same line that it came in on?

Hi Roy, I think we might be getting into the "no mulitple external interfaces on the ISA Server" problem. I don't believe this will work. You should be able to put the ISDN line on another machine and configure the network routing tables to forward requests for the destination network ID to that other machine. I have talked to MS support on the issue, and recieved an e-mail today on the subject. The person stated that I should be able to get 2 external interfaces on the system, and I need to call him back. I'll try to keep everyone updated on the progress.

Just to follow up to Tom's post. The problem with putting the ISDN connection on another ISA server is that publishing won't work .. Use this simple diagram as an example: ISDN T1 | | ISA ISA | | \ / ---------- | SMTP (this diagram probable won't show correctly) Connections coming in on the ISDN connection go the the SMTP "published" server. Connections also come in on the T1 to be published on the same SMTP server. Now, the SMTP server can get the incomming connection, but does not know the route to respond (you can only have one default gateway). Since you have no way of knowing who sent the request (ISDN or T1) you don't know how to get back to the sender. This is what I am woring on with MS. I dont' have high hopes of getting it working, but MS says that it should be possible. Putting BOTH incomming connections on the same ISA server or on different ones makes no difference in this case.

Hi Roy, You will get a special prize if you can figure out how to have two external interfaces work with ISA Server. No one in the last six months has been able to figure this out, so if you come up with a solution, you will be this week's "ISA Superhero"! Thanks!
