Hi What do I have to do to view usernames connected to the ISA server (I can see the IP's just fine but usernames come up as anonymous). Thanks for all the previous help btw. Ben

Hi I as well can not figure that one out. What I am doing is using the ping -a for IP address name resolution. At least I can see which workstation it is. Heiko

Do you have the 'Firewall Client' installed on your clients computers? Installing the Client will enable you to view your users by UserName, instead of by IP. ------------------ Stephen Chetcuti www.isaserver.org

Check that ISA-Server machine has Netbios enabled on the intenal interface. Apart from that it should have access and be part of the Domain.

Ooops, I have noticed not all of my users are being displayed. Why I do not know? My Terminal server has no firewall client on and there is shows sometimes the username when they are browsing. Heiko

To enable user names in sessions, select "Properties" for the desired array, then "Outgoing Web Requests". Under "Connections", select the check-box for "Ask unauthenticated users for identification". Stop and start the service when prompted. Users are then listed with their Domain. The Firewall client and Netbios protocols are not necessary.

Thanks Chris The names appear fine (most of them at least) but when I enable this my proxy service stops for no apparent reason after a few min. Ben

I am having the same problem. PDC NT4.0 ISA Server on W2kServer SP1, a member of the domain All clients are Win 98 and have the Firewall Client loaded. In the ISA Log file most entries have U-names. Those that don't, appear to have been satisfied by the cache and have sc-status of 407 (Proxy Authentication Required) It is important for me to be able to put a U name to every request, any Ideas ?

Are the users that use Win9x logged into the domain when they try to access the ISA Server? Not sure how Win9x clients work, but that might be an explanation. Remember that unless you ask unauthenticated users to authenticate, if any rules that allow for anonymous access are enabled, the user name will not be logged when the user tries to access a web resource. HTH, Tom

Actually, if you have the http redirector turned on for the firewall client, then it will forward the request to the WWW service. When it does this, it connects as anonymous, so you end up seeing 2 sessions for 1 user (1, the original firewall client connection, 2, the anonymous pass through to the WWW service). If you change your HTTP redirector for the Firewall service to connect directly to target instead of forwarding the request, then you should get the username.

Hey Ewatkins, Excellent call! That's right. If you let the request be passed through the HTTP Redir, the authentication information is lost. But if you change the HTTP redir. settings to send the request directly to the internet, then the authencation information is retained, and the connection is no longer an anonymous request. Thanks! Unfortunately, this is not the case for me. I have users who have no Default Gateway (so they can't be SNAT clients), have the FWCL installed, do not have any proxy configured in their browser, and the username STILL shows up as Anonymous. This is very frustrating. I want to provide these reports to managers, but I need for it to display the user's name and not their IP addy. Any other suggestions? BTW, I am running the 120 Eval Standard version on a Win2K SP1 server. Thanks jhaley@deltadentalok.org

Hi JHaley, OK, let's cut to the chase. You need user information in your web proxy logs, right? Then configure the browsers as web proxy clients, and then configure the Outgoing Web Requests Listener to require authentication. You might also delete any anonymous access rules you have for the web protocols and expressly assign permissions to users and groups. Sorry to bring this topic back from the dead - but.... Is there any way to show the usernames with the Following Config: *Desktops running mix of NT 4.0 and W2K *The Explorer HHTP proxy is the ISA server. *The Firewall Client is not installed on the Desktops. *The Firewall feature of ISA is not being used (We are in Cache mode only - We use CheckPoint for Firwall) - We don't want to use the MS Firewall feature. *The CheckPoint Firewall is the Default Gateway of the ISA Server.
