Currently, this is the way our network is, and everything works great:

Internet >
ISP Provided Box >
SBS 2003 w/Exchange, DNS, DHCP, 15 public IP's (hosting several websites) >
64 Port Switch >
Client Computers

I have installed ISA 2004 on an older server (with 2 NIC's) we have here and want to use it as a "hardware" firewall. I have tested my configuration in a lab environment, and everything looks good to go. The question is, what does the physical network connection need to be for the ISA box to act as a firewall?

This is my guess:
Internet >
ISP Provided Box >
ISA >
SBS 2003 w/Exchange, DNS, DHCP, 15 public IP's >
64 Port Switch >
Client Computers

If this is correct, then how do you get the legit internet traffic to simply "pass through" the ISA box? Or is no physical change needed, but simply apply it through a proxy setting on the SBS server?

I have searched thuroughly (maybe not with the right terms though) and cannot find any answer to this question.

Hi Faulkner,

You need to configure the clients on the ISA firewall Protected Networks as SecureNAT, Firewall and/or Web Proxy clients, depending on your security requirements.

This is discussed in exquisite detail in our book.
