Anyone else experience a slowdown after installing ISA '04? Installed Win2003, all updates, then installed ISA B2 and noticed a considerable performance loss, like ~300k on perf test vs. ~1500k using Win2k/ISA2k with a cable modem. Web page loads are very choppy. I have had no problems with lab machines using only LAN connections in the past, but this is killing me.

Hi T,
I've actually found ISA 2004 to be a lot faster than ISA2000, esp for Web Proxy. Is your DNS configuration correct?
Thanks! Tom

maybe your caching rules are set different ? Same for me here , only performance increase since ISA 2K4.

First, I didn't define a cache drive, so I thought the problem might be from the http redirector filter, which I disabled. I did this to eliminate the possiblity that it might be a problem with the web proxy service, and wanted ISA to act solely as a firewall with no proxy services.
Didn't help. I re-enabled the filter, defined a cache drive of 500 MB in size, still made no difference in speed, even for going to the same sites that should have been cached. Pages were loading very choppy, speed tests were slow, but I downloaded several files from MS, and some downloaded at normal speed.
The machine is an OLD test machine, P266/192MB RAM, which is well below the recommended minimums, but CPU and mem usage were within acceptable range (~25% cpu avg, ~65-70% mem usage). I used the same machine with Win2k/ISA2k, and SFU with 128 MB and it ran fine even though it took 5 minutes to boot. I will upgrade the hardware to P450, and double the RAM tonight and see if there is any difference. I guess it's possible that the ISP cable service just happened to coincidentally be lagging at the same time, but I haven't checked today.

I am having the same problem. Only I am running on a P4 1.6 with 256mb of DDR Ram, and 2 ATA100 drives. I have the cache set to 5GB...
Proxy and Firewall. Everything worked great untill a few hours ago. I would do a test and get the same speed with the ISA 2004 as without. Now I'm down to about 25% of my total bandwidth can't even download a movie from apple very fast. This shouldn't be a DNS problem given I am just downloading a move after being at the webpage but I will check. I have had the same settup about 5 diffrent installs and never had a problem untill now when I need it to work for a test.
Any ideas?
I have about 7 to 10 users on it now doing normal internet surfing.
Before I had a 15GB cache...

Hi TNev,
ISA 2004 doesn't have an HTTP Redirect filter.

Hi Jeremy,
Do you see any services pegging in the Task Manager Processes tab?
Thanks! Tom

I meant to state http web filter, just so used to working with ISA2000. I now know it's a problem with ISA, as I uninstalled it and configured NAT through RRAS and everything is fine. I will reinstall and try to figure out the culprit, and will report back if I find anything.

Hi TNev,
No problem! Another consideration is a client config issue. Make sure the browser is configured to use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections.

I nothing other than what needs to be running. This is a new install just for this. I get anywhere from 512kb to 1.2mb down and 400 to 700 up...
Without it I get 1.5 down, and 1.4 up with no problem everytime...
What can we do to make it fast?
They say the through put it like 1.6giga's but I don't even get 1.5 cleanly...
Are there updates for Beta 2 somewhere? or are the RC out yet?

Hi Jeremy,
I'm getting full throughput on my T1's, so I'm not sure what the problem might be. Stay tuned for updated beta's.
HTH, Tom
