Small Businness Server 2003 - 22.Jun.2004 10:28:00 AM

I'm the (happy) admin of a small network running SBS-2003 as the domain controller, we also run a dedicated sql server (on win2k server) and a file server (NT4).

My current setup the SBS server which runs IIS as well is located in the DMZ of the firewall (a Zywall-70). The sql and file server and clients are all connected to the Lan.

Considering your own comments on the topic "You canĘt trust any service running on the Windows operating system to be secure".
Would it be of any benefit to me to install ISA2000, as I see it this might help me protect the SBS server somewhat, but does nothing to protect the network itself.

Regards
Richard

Hi Richard,

Those aren't my comments, those are the comments of the clueless firewall admins! You can trust services running on the Windows OS. Only the security "wonks" who live in rubber suits and cleanroom implements would argue otherwise.

You definitely would benefit by putting an ISA 2004 firewall in front of the SBS machine. The ISA firewall will make up for the NAT router that you're using for a firewall now and plug up the application layer filtering holes it has.

HTH,
Tom
