We have an interesting problem I hope someone might know about.  We have a large number of  secureNAT / anonymous Web Proxy clients using ISA 2k4 as a proxy / caching server in a one NIC configuration. All traffic goes through ISA before hitting the SonicWall and then on to the Internet.  Every once in a while we will have a website that gets blocked by the SonciWall as porn or gambling.  When we disable the proxy setting in IE, the site can be reached OK.

Our network guys say they cannot find the block / error on the SonicWall that shows what might be happening and they say they have added the domain in question to the 'allow' list.

Thanks in advance

How is this an ISA issue if the SonicWall is blocking it? It sounds like a SonicWall configuration issue with the ISA server as a client accessing through the Sonicwall. If it is a big problem the suggestion would be to disable the service on the Sonicwall and utilize the ISA for that feature!

You're preaching to the choir, I could not agree more.  Our network guys believe that a firewall should not have moving parts, ie a disk drive and a Microsoft OS.  So we have the clients' proxy set at the ISA and then traffic goes through the 'real' firewall, the SonicWall, to the Internet.

Their belief is that the client turns off the proxy it works, turn on the proxy it does not & a false positive is generated.  Therefore they say the proxy is the problem.  I've opend up a case with Microsoft and their first pass shows no issue.  We get about half a dozen of these events a year with certain web sites.  The burden is on me to prove the network guys have a SonicWall issue.  Or I've got a real wierd ISA issue.

I'll let you know how it ends up.

Yep, I feel your pain. Sounds like you need to get a new network guy!

Good luck,
