Hello All,
Occasionally, I see a spike in traffic shown in the usage reports of about 45 GB. I am running ISA2006. This does not happen every day, and it does not follow a set pattern. Would this be the download of the internet cache occuring?

Thanks

What do you mean by "download of the Internet cache"?

Thanks!
Tom

Poor phrasing of words on my part, what I meant was could this be ISA "refreshing" its cache contents? From what I understand, ISA keeps a local cache to speed up internet requests - is this not the case?

Not true. ISA Firewalls haven't supported dynamic cache updates since ISA 2000.

Tom

Which still does not answer my original question, what is the spike in traffic as shown below:

Traffic
The following chart summarizes the amount of network traffic, by date, sent through ISA Server. This report includes both Web and non-Web traffic.

Traffic by date

And on my ISA server, there is a file called Dir1.cdat that is 39,680,000 kb in size, is that not the cache file?

All I am trying to determine is what causes this spike in traffic periodically?

Thanks

Check your reports and log files to see what might be causing the traffic.

HTH,
Tom

Check your "Content download Jobs" tab on the Cache node - i'm sure you will find a clue in there..  I tend not to download any websites as it uses a hell of a lot of bandwidth. lol.. cheers

Hi Gofishing,

Good idea. I've also found that it fills the cache with junk that no one ever looks at.

Tom
