I currently have ISA 2000 in production. I want to stage an ISA 2006 install in VMware.  I would then export that configuration. I would re-format my ISA 2000 physical box and install ISA 2006 clean, then import the configuration exported from VMware.

My plan is as follows:

I would use an alternate server name for the ISA 2006 VMware guest, install and join it to my domain, the same domain ISA 2000 is installed.  The ISA 2006 VMware guest would be the configuration server and run ISA services.

I would add 2 NICs to the VMware guest for ISA 2006 and set the IP ranges to match that of my production server.  There would be no actual connectivity on thees NICs as this would cause problems with the production network.

I would then configure ISA 2006 in VMware exactly as needed for my production environment and export the configuration.

I would then format my ISA 2000 box, install ISA 2006 with configuration server and ISA seervices, and import the configuration I exported from VMware.

Is this a valid process?  The VMware ISA 2006 box and the production ISA  2006 would be part of the same domain and have differnet names as I worked through this process.  Is this an issue?  Before I setup the production ISA 2006 box, would I need to uninstall ISA from the VMware box and remove any entries in Active Directory?

It should work.
