Right now all of the users at my company use ISA 2004 as a web proxy. I have is set in group policy for them to use the Autoconfiguration script and the address of the Proxy. If I get on any PC an select only the Automatically detect settings and then hit the Internet my DNS setting will change when I do an ipconfig /all. Our internal private IP is 172.20.20.0. The DNS entry that it gets changed to is 192.168.4.9, completely different. I do have a WPAD entry in my DNS server. I can not find any settings that could be changing this on my servers so I am at a loss of where to look for the funky setting. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. I will post answers to questions you may have.

Thanks

Hi UIT,

Wpad or any other ISA firewall related issue isn't going to change your client's DNS settings.

Check your DHCP server.

I thought myself until I did some testing to figure out what the problem was. If I set my PC up as a DHCP Client I will get the corrct address and everything works fine. No proxy and no setting check in the Internet settings box. If I do a ipconfig /release and a /renew I will get legit settings all day.

The minute I select only the Automatically configure settings checked box and hit the Internet my DNS entry will change from 172.20.20.33 to 192.168.4.9. If I uncheck the setting and release and renew my address I get the correct settings again.

My ISA 2004 is the only proxy on the network and this is why I am guessing that it is a setting wrong on my ISA box. I understand that ISA should not affect this in any way but from my troubleshooting I can not think of anything else.

Thanks for the reply
Any thoughts?
