I already posted the message below in a SBS-forum, but had no results. So I will try it in here:

Let me first explain our situation a bit:

We have two sites. For convenience I will call them A and B. At site A there is a server with SBS 2003 standard. At site B there are two servers, one with SBS 2003 premium and ISA 2004 installed and a Terminal Server. Connected to site B are two branch offices. These branch offices and site B are all connected to each other through router-to-router VPN connections. Site B and the branch offices have different network ranges: 192.168.10.0 for site B, 192.168.20.0 and 192.168.30.0 for the branch offices. On both sites (and branch offices) we also have Mac's installed. On both SBS servers there is a GPO for disabling SMB signing.

So what's our problem: it's about accessing the shares on the SBS server from a Mac computer!

On site A we have no problems at all. I can access all shares through smb or afp (for afp we use a file server software called ExtremZ-IP) and by using the server name or it's IP address. Even when building up a VPN connection from my laptop (also tried it when I was at site B) to the server, I have no problems accessing the shares from SBS server at site A. The problems arise with the SBS premium server at site B.

What works: a local Mac computer at site B connecting to the SBS Premium server by using it's server-name. If I use the server-name I can access the shares, but only through smb.

What doesn't work:
- trying to access it by using the IP address of the server
- using the afp protocol (installed ExtremeZ-IP)
- trying to connect to the shares at one of the branch offices
- building up a VPN connection to SBS premium server and then trying to access the shares.

I always get an error code -36 (some data can't be read or written (rough translation))

For testing I created a share on the Terminal Server (Windows 2003). I could access it and didn't have any of the problems mentioned above.

I did all the testing with the same Mac laptop (10.4.8 and later on 10.4.9). There are no problems with Windows XP clients. There are no other problems with the Mac's (internet, companyweb, accessing a mac server etc. is all fine)

So anyone has any ideas?

Ps. in the ISA log I see 6 lines when trying to connect to a share and getting the error code: first and last one is about "NetBios Name Service" others about "NetBios Session". Always initiated connection and then closed connection.
