Hi, Using ISA 2006 Standard, we are suffering the following problem/alert: The Compression filter cannot handle a response because the allocated memory currently used for compression reached its limit. The memory allocated for compression is specified by the following registry values under the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\RAT\Stingray\Debug\W3Filter key: COMPRESS_MEMORY_ALLOC_MBYTES (by default, 256) and COMPRESS_MEMORY_POOL_BLOCKS (by default, 200). Published websites are down from that moment. On the ISA 2006 server, the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\RAT\Stingray\Debug\W3Filter registry key does not even exist. I have now added the registry key, but I have no idea if that will solve the problem.

I am having exactly the same problem. We kind of solved it by restarting our ISA 2006 every midnight. Is Microsoft aware of this?

I got this error within just a few hours of rebuilding one of production inbound proxy servers with Windows 2003/SP1 + ISA 2006 Std. The server is used for inbound proxy access only. Users would see an HTTP 500 error message and the event ID mentioned above would be logged. I temporarily worked around the problem by simply disabling HTTP compression from the ISA management console. The server has been running without any issues for the past week. Having a touch of OCD, I couldn't stand to leave it in this state. It has been suggested to me to perform the following steps. 1. Stop the firewall service and rename your cache file (dir1.cdat) 2. Apply the hot fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928876 3. Apply the hot fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918994 4. Set the TcpTimedWaitDelay http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/en/library/38b8bf76-b7d3-473c-84e8-e657c0c619d11033.mspx 5. Finally update the drivers for the Intel/PRO cards I have in the machine. I believe the hot fixes are only available currently through Microsoft support channels. I haven't applied these steps yet, so your mileage may vary. As always, make sure you have a backout plan.
