This is my first server project which i am very anxious to get under way. BUT...

During the <Windows2000 Configure your Server> walkthrough; I selected <this is the only server in my Network>; I used ISA as the domain name and LOCAL for specifying a public domain.

After these steps, i get the following error when the sever attempts to create AD :

Then network name cannot be located.

My question is this : What's the procedure to create a domain after installing the OS? Keeping in mind that the server will have only one client connected to it and ISA will be directly connected to our ISP's internet hub.

warm regards,

jd

To create a domain after installing the OS run the dcpromo command. In fact, unless you script the creation of a domain controller, you have to wait for the OS installation to complete before running this program. Even if you script it, the scripted DC creation doesn't take place until after the OS is installed.

If you have a domain that you want to whack, run the dcpromo command again and remove the old domain. Then you can run it again and create a new domain. Be sure that you have DNS in place and configured. Check my article over at brainbuzz.com regarding the issues related to the AD DNS Server Wizard and some of the probloms related to it.

HTH,

Tom
