Haven't you noticed...Dr. Shinder only answers you once, if at all whether it's this site or Microsofts newsgroup. I bought his book...wish I could get my $50 back.

Robert,
You ungratful twat. Are you paying for this...No.

Sure, you bought the book...but you think that entitles you to constant support to your whining bitch ass...no!

Go use another firewall product, and leave us all the hell alone.

Jez...I could have guessed that the first response to this would have included profanity. If you spent more time helping people instead of attacking them pointlessly I might not have had to post that last one. No, I don't think because I bought the book that that entitles me to constant support. But, I do expect that when you reply to a posting on this asking for more info that Dr.Shinder or anyone follow thru. Too many times on this site do you read a reply of his that askes for more info and you never hear for them again. While your busy cussing at me, poor Russnem never did get his question answered. Think about it.

And, just because I can't let it go, your awful brave over the internet. Talk like that face to face could get a person hurt. So if I were you, I'd stick to insulting people over the internet.

Now that profanity is uncalled for but in the same you shouldnt be coming to the board and bashing the support you get due to reading errors. Buying a book is not entilement to free answers to shorten your quest for the answer. Take a moment and look at how many posts there are and how many Toms there are and do some math. He does have a day job and if you had tested your implementation properly ( Yes tested ) you would have been bale to research the issues and not be in a jam it is called R&D and planning in case you need a hint.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the backup

It is frustrating for me that I can't answer all the questions on these boards. I try to get to every question that doesn't have an answer, but since there are so many new questions that don't have answers, I spend my time on those and its difficult to get back and do the follow up on previous questions where I asked for more information.

Its true that I have a day job (well, actually several jobs). If it had it my way, I would make www.isaserver.org my day job and not do anything else!

Thanks!

Tom

I really don't mean to be rude, but I really wish you'd spent that time answering my question. I've followed your two part article to the letter and have been met with NO success. And I even did that TWICE, on two COMPLETELY different installs of Win2K and ISA.

If you CAN help me further, would you mind?

Hi Russ,

Sure will, but can you bring me up to speed on what the initial problem was?

Thanks!

Absolutely.

I have one static IP address on my cable modem. I have ISA server installed on my one Win2K server along with web services (IIS) and exchange. But there is an internal Linux box that I need to publish to the outside world so I can browse to it from wherever I am.

I added the listener on the external IP address, I added a destination set for myserver.mydomain.com, I added a web publishing rule that forwards the request (with the original header) to the linux server's IP address, but I still can't reach it from the outside world.

The odd thing is that sometimes people tell me they see their browsers saying "connecting to 10.0.0.6...", which can obviously never happen.

My cable company blocks DNS queries to my server, so I'm using a friend's DNS server, and I've got a host set up for my linux box and it points to my external IP address.

Thanks.

Hi Russ,

I would be there is something amiss with the DNS settings. That is the only way the external clients can get information about the IP address of your FQDN. Would be interesting to so an nslookup ls on your domain at the server and see what is happening on that end.

Tom

Tom,

Forgive me, please -- I'm sure you know a lot about ISA server, but I've yet to hear something that might get me started in the right direction!

As I indicated, the only DNS entries in my friend's DNS server is my external IP address.

Is there any kind of checklist that I can follow (besides that 2-part article that didn't work)?

Hi Russ,

It does work! Thousands of people have used it and it works

Again, you need to troubleshoot the DNS configuration. Use the 'server' command for the nslookup and set the server to your friend's DNS server. Then do an 'ls <domain>' or query for the records that are giving your problems. Make sure to set the type 'set type=all'.

You might also try using Network Monitor and then try to access the site from an external network host. That is a good way to figure out what's going on at the packet level.

HTH,
Tom
