Hi all,

I'm using ISA server 2000 with 1 MB bandwidth subscription & giving Internet access to 40  users  out of 65 on my network.
I wanted to use any software or how can  monitor the browsing traffic or how much a perticular user has used ?

Do i need to use any  seperatre software ?

or  ISA  gives facility inside it ?

Any torch bearer here  ?

You can use the bult in ISA reports to produce a daily/weekly/monthly report on the top X users.
There was a free "GFI webmonitor" tool available for a while which gave a nice browser based 'insight' into who was doing what.. as a lead in to their full product suite - although I believe (from a quick search) this is no longer available.
Realistically the 3rd party tools tend to do a better job of reporting on "what happened" whereas ISA carries on DOING the job of what should happen.

Try one of the multitude of 3rd party apps - most have short (10 to 30 day) trial periods with full or most funcitonality before they become crippled.

yes correct
But if you remember ISA 2000  on win 2000 server do not work. I  treid & it falied to install.
Anyway i'm just  testing  everything & still loooking  another software to test the for best reporting user by user.
I think ISA 2000  has not much security & better reporting functions.

Still in search of ................

 ?? ABSOLUTELY ISA2000 will run on Win2000.... and Win2003.
ISA2004 will run on Win2000, Win2003.....

"I think ISA 2000  has not much security & better reporting functions". Not much security? methinks you haven't spent much time learning ISA! Reporting functions? There I'd agree theres not a helluva lot, but enough for most admins who have more to do than review reports all day!

yes
You are Kurrect

I 'm  setting up all  options & trying  to use all  those facilty  ISA 2000 provides what i found here.
It is based on top 5 users in summary.
Top web sites visited
Top destinations.....  some others  mostly useless.

Mostly  what an Admin wants ... to monitor a single user activity sometimes......!!!

Any idea  .....   ?
There  is no such option to monitor a single user activity specilally.

Theres no standard report to monitor a single users activity.
I'll usually check the "top X" reports of sites/users etc but if I have a need to monitor down to all activity for a single user then I'll use the WEBD logs.

eg: Say I wanted to know everywhere user BobSmith had been for the month of February 2008
I'd go the the ISA box into the logs directory and do
find "BobSmith" WEBD200802*.log > bobsmith.txt
to produce a text file called bobsmith of everywhere that useID had been.
you can then open in excel and comma seperate the fields and you'll see a full list of everywhere that authenticated User had been.

Hope this helps.

As admins whilst we certainly can "check on everything a user does and everywhere they go", I've got no time for that! Thousands of lines of logs to read for the hell of it?!?! I've got REAL work to do
