I am planning on scheduling ISA training in the next two months. We are planning on upgrading our ISA 2000 servers to ISA 2006. I can’t find any ISA 2006 training. Is ISA 2006 similar enough to ISA 2004 for me to take the ISA 2004 training or should I wait until someone offers ISA 2006 training?
Thanks

Hi Nathan,

I'm not aware of any ISA 2006 training at this time or evening any in production. ISA 2004 is very very similar, so there are just a few Web proxy features that you would need to bone up on to get up to speed with 2006. The learning curve is very flat between 2004 and 2006. Think of 2006 as R2 for 2004.

HTH,
Tom

You can use these recorded webcasts. Some of them are just for business decision makers (Level 100) and some are advanced (Level 300). The top four on the list are about ISA 2006. This months momentum webcast (which is for business decision makers. I attended it last night) isn't on the list yet. There will be more on ISA 2006 in the upcoming months. The only bad thing about these recorded webcasts is that you can't ask questions to the presenter  So it's wise to catch them while they are being cast.

These recorded webcasts are about "Configuring Exchange and VPN Connectivity with ISA Server 2004".

I asked the question is a recent ISA 2006 webcast.  The word that I got was that official Microsoft ISA 2006 training would be approximately 3 months out, so probably in Q1-2007.  I need to move our ISA outbound proxy environment much soon than that, so I decided to go ahead and take the Microsoft ISA 2004 training course.  I'm not finding too much difficulty in moving from one product to the other.  Just my $0.02 worth.

Hi Red,

There's very little difference between the 2004 ISA Firewall and the 2006 ISA Firewall. The only major differences are in the reverse Web proxy filter support.

Remember, the ISA Firewall is always a Firewall, and it does have some new enhancements to its stateful packet inspection engine, which makes it an even more impressive edge firewall offering!

HTH,
Tom
