I am having problems migrating an array to a new CSS. We had to build a temporary CSS on a desktop running Windows 2003 as our supplier could no deliver all of the servers in time. Now that we have the right kit though, I want to move to the new CSS and turn off the temporary one (or at least make it a secondary CSS), basically swap them over.

I have added the new CSS to the relevant objects in system policy Replicate Configuration Storage servers and Enterprise Configuration Storage Servers. Then  added the new CSS as an alternate CSS on the configuration storage tab. It accepts all this but when I RDP to the new CSS, run up the management console, then connect up to the local computer, nothing i.e. no arrays show up, unless I connect up to the old CSS from there.

I have also tried swapping round the CSS’s in the Configuration Storage tab so the new one is primary, restarted the old server but still it doesn’t seem to take over and the arrays are still visible on the old but not the new. As a last ditch attempt I ran the ChangeStorageServer.vbs on one of the array members and still it doesn’t show up in the new CSS console.

I thought the new one should just take over automatically if the old one was shut down but it doesn’t seem to be doing this.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

When you installed it, did you choose the Replica CSS option? Are there any error in the event logs with reference to ADAM?

Okay thanks Jason. I didn't want to over complicate the issue by stating that the CSS I am using is a dedicated Celestix CSS Applicance. I only RDP to it anyway so I don't think of as an applicance.

However, your reply has helped me out because all of the CSS components (and nothing else) was preinstalled so I was just using what I was given. After uninstalling and reinstalling the ISA CSS components, and selecting replica it has done exactly what I wanted it to.

I just expected every option to be available in the management console; creating a replica of an enterprise would be a useful addition so folk don't have to go reinstalling.

Many thanks.

Ah yes, all Celestix boxes assume they are the first and only CSS...it seems like you found this out

I couldn't agree more and have asked Celestix about this being added to the GUI...

Glad you got it sorted!

Cheers

JJ
