Do any of you know if there are any issues logging into Exchange 2007 using the UPN logon format with ISA Server in the middle?  For example, E2k7 Mbx server à CAS à ISA Server | Internet.  Here’s basically what I’m after (where users would be coming from multiple domains within a single forest):

1.       Can you have ISA and still use UPN’s for logging into your e2k7 mailbox from the following clients,
a.       ActiveSync
b.      Outlook Anywhere
c.       OWA
2.       Does it matter or does it change if you have ISA 2006 vs. ISA 2004?

The environment will be a single forest model with a root domain and 5 child domains.  We want to be able to set a universal UPN for all to user@rootDomain.com.  The UPN would be an alternate UPN as the internal name is rootDomain.internal.  The forest and all domains are native 2003 level.

I have found a number of kb’s and other articles that talk briefly about this but all are in a single domain model.  I need to ensure that UPN is not problematic for users who are NOT in the same domain as the exchange servers.  My plan is to add an alternate UPN suffix at the forest level which matches the SMTP suffix of the customer domain.  This alt UPN would also match the SMTP email address and be listed as the primary address for all recipients via email address policy.

Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jon
