Hi everybody,

i defined for microsoft and symantec a URL Set. Like this *.microsoft, etc.. If i include an IP in the set, then i can access the page, but if i want to use the normal names, then ISA blocks it. In the log i see that it uses the default rule and not my Updateservice rule. If i use the IP, then the Updateservice rule will be used.

My Config:

no DNS Server at the Server => in the network connection config, i set the internet DNS
i can ping the sites with their names and get the right IPs
if i allow all pages in the rule, i can browse the pages normally without any restriction

Any ideas ?
Does ISA require a local DNS Server ? I don't think so, because - like i mentioned before - with changed rules, i can browse the net perfectly.

Hi Osmos,

Only Firewall and Web Proxy clients provide the URL to the firewall. SecureNAT clients are very limited in that they only provide the IP address to the firewall (actually, SecureNAT are limited in many other ways as well).

Thanks for the fast answer but
my Problem is:

i want to enable MS Update
i want to use liveupdate from Symantec

These two things are on the server and i only need it for the server and not for the clients behind. They make connections with names not IPs and because of Symantec and MS LoadBalancing System i can't use IPs.
The normal Inet Rule has Contentfilter enabled so you cannot download applications. This is because i made the other rule with full internet access to this URLSet.

Shouldn't the URL names work on the server itself ?

Hi Osmos,

The ISA machine should be configured as a Web Proxy client. The easiest way to do this is to create a content download job. You'll be prompted to enable the firewall as a Web Proxy client and set Web Proxy services for the Local Host network.
