Hello,

I am fairly new to ISA 2006 and I am sure ISA server is able to perform what I am looking for but I am not able to find the function in the publishing rule nor am I able to find any documentation. The reason is pobebrly that I am not looking for the right technical term.

So for example: The user types in the URL https://www.contoso.com/portal/.
The user logs into the page and then in the browser the URL shows https://www.contos.com/portal/app/page.html.
What i would like to accomplish is that no matter to which supfolder or file the user is browsing too that he sees in the browser addressbar https://www.contoso.com/portal/

Can anyone tell me what this feature would be called in ISA and if you could also point me to a location where I would find info how to implement that, that would be great.

Thank you
Marcus

You want an URL cloaking mechanism, yes ?
I think that this is not available out of the box(some may correct me), maybe there might be a third-party add-on.
If I remember correctly, IAG 2007 provides URL cloaking.

I don't think any proxy/firewall would be able to do this because the application behind it would have no idea how to render pages since the browser will think it is the same page and keep sending requests for that page.

Two ways I can think of that sites do this: iframes and ajax.  In the first, the main page of the site is only an iframe and all content is rendered within the iframe.  In the second, all the site content is rendered through ajax calls so the browser is really always on that one page.

In any situation like this, it can become a usability nightmare because the browser back and forward buttons will not work the way the user expects.

Hope that helps,
Joseph

You may try to take a look at IAG's portal trunks and HAT. The users will access a configured portal and launch their applications from this portal.
When launching various applications, after login, the "url" from the browser's address bar will stay "intact"(if they don't start opening new windows or tabs).
Still, users may see "something" in the browser status bar.
