I'm hoping somebody can help me.

I've scoured this forum for information on this problem and haven't found a solution. I also read several articles on the site with regards to publishing VNC server in ISA but this also hasn't worked for me.

I use UltraVNC Single Click for remote support. This allows a customer to run an EXE at their site and connect to my workstation. My network is protected by ISA. I have published a rule as in this article and this one. These refer mainly to ISA 2k, however I've taken the idea behind them and used it for what I have setup.

I have created a server publishing rules that listens on the External interface at the right port and includes the internal workstation IP as the destination server. I see the traffic coming into ISA in the monitoring screen, however it is being shown as 'Unidentified IP traffic' and is using the 'Default rule' to deny access.

I've noticed a number of posts in this forum where they haven't been 'finished' (ie. suggestions have been made by the original poster doesn't update). I'm keen to get this working and promise to write an article for the site on how to get it working in ISA 2k4 IF you help me get it working! :-)

Thanks very much in advance for ANY help.

Kind regards,

Hi Paul,

What protocol definitions did you create?

What do the ISA Firewall's logs show?

Is your computer a SecureNAT client?

Thanks!
Tom

Hi Tom,

I got absolutely no response whatsoever in here so I took the problem to Microsoft.

In the end it turned out to be a network object I had created that had an IP network that overalpped the External network object. Removing that in the end solved the problem.

The rules I had created were actually correct along with the protocol and everything else.

Thanks for your interest. I hope this lets other people know that what is out there does actually work when you know what you're doing

Hi Paul,

We are experiencing the same problem here with ISA 2004. I followed all the instructions I could find and like you most were for 2000. My publishing rule and protocol are all set right. Client-Server is setup right too as I can use them through another firewall. It has to be the ISA...

Could you please elaborate on that network object you removed? Where is that?

Thank you very much for your help.

JF

First of all  i dont no whethere im in the right place or not.

I have some sort of same scenario where i have a workgroup based LAN with
1 ISA 2004 with 2 NIC, one connected to internet and other to LAN
1 Windows 2000 Standalone Server installed with tight vnc server
4 Windows 2000 Clients

On isa i have setup a vnc protocol with port range 5800-5900. I have created a server publish a rule.

I can access the sql server from any pc on lan via browsers using http:\\lan_ip:5800

And from internet/remote i can only get the vnc logon screen by typing http:\\external_ip:5800
On the logon screen when i type the password, the screen just freezes, nothing happens.

I dont where i have made mistake.......

Hi Paul,

Very good! I figured that the protocol definitions were correct and that there must have been some other configuration issue causing the problem.

Thanks for the follow up and good to hear that you got things working.

Tom
