Hello, I am having a bit of trouble getting TS (using TSAC) on the ISA server working on either the internal or external interface. I have successfully published the port (3389) and the web server publishing rules are setup correctly. I know this only because I am currently accessing a server inside my network from the outside. In fact, I can change the publishing rules so that I can access any server running TSAC (except for the ISA server) from the Internet.
Unfortunately, I cannot remotely access the ISA server to administrate it whether I am inside or outside the network. I have followed all of the technical documents on both this and the Microsoft web site with no avail. I must be missing something simple. Could in have something to do with port 8080 and it already being in use by ISA?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Alan

Stefaan,
Thanks for the repsonse. In regards to your suggestion, I have already created the RDP Server Protocol Definition in ISA for TCP port 3389 Inbound and the Terminal Service has been bound to the internal interface.
I think that my problem may be more basic than this though. The only way I can connect to TS on the ISA server is by putting in the internal address including the port number. I have to do this because I could not get the Default Web Site to start using port 80 (8080) so I switched it to port 8081 for testing purposes. When I type in 192.168.255.251:8081/tsweb I get the 'Remote Desktop Web Connection' in my browser, but when I try to connect a window pops up stating "VBSCRIPT:REMOTE DESKTOP DISCONNETED" and after selecting 'OK' I get brought back to the Remote Desktop Web Connection page.
Should I being running IIS 5.0 in a different way or not at all?
Alan

Hi Alan,
oh... you are using tsweb! I've no first hand experience with that. I would first test the TS server publishing rule with a full TS client. If that is working you must tell the tsweb that the TS web client must connect to the external IP address and port number where you have the TS published on.
Keep in mind that you can only publish a particular service once per external IP address. So, if you have multiple TS's to publish you must have multiple external IPs bound to the ISA external interface or use unstandard port numbers.
HTH, Stefaan

Tom,
I noticed that! It woiuld seem that you have to patch TSWEB if you update IE6. A pain in the but, but not that big of a problem.
FYI. I have the Configuring ISA Server 2000 book, but not the newer one. What does it offer that I do not already have?
Thanks in advance!
Alan

Hello,
It would appear that I have corrected part of the problem. ISA and IIS don't play well together when on the same server. By default they both want to listen to incoming requests on port 80. To fix this I modified the ISA Server Web publishing rule so that the ISA Server forwards all requests to an alternate port (9999) on the Web server.
This allows me to get to the server remotely (internally and externally), but when I select the 'connect' button from the Remote Desktop Connection screen I get a message stating the following:
VBScript: Remote Desktop Disconnection "The client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled ot the computer might be too busy to accept new connections. It is also pssible that network problems are preventing you connection. Please try connecting again later. If the problem continues to occur, contact your administrator."
Has anyone ever seen this message before? I cannot find it anywhere on the MS web site.
Alan

Hi Alan,
There you go! The new book contains a ton of detail on how to publish services on the ISA Server itself, including all of the Exchange mail services and running the SMTP Message Screener on the ISA Server itself.
Your problem is related to socket pooling. Check out my article on this subject over at www.isaserver.org/shinder
Thanks! Tom

Thanks Tom! I don't think I would have ever found this on the Microsoft web site.
So to make sure I understand what you are saying, I should do the following:
1. Open a command prompt and navigate to the \Inetpub\Adminscripts\ folder 2. Type net stop msftpsvc and press [ENTER] 3. Type in the following command:
cscript adsutil.vbs set w3svc/ disablesocketpooling true
and then press [ENTER]
