Just installed ISA 2006 EE on a IBM Server, started getting the following errors:

quote:

Event Type:    Error
Event Source:    Microsoft ISA Server Control
Event Category:    None
Event ID:    21209

Description:
The ISA Server configuration agent was unable to upload the configuration to the ISA Server services. This could be due to a corrupt configuration. The ISA Server configuration agent is reverting the configuration back to the last known configuration. The service that failed to load the configuration is: fwsrv.

quote:

Event Type:    Information
Event Source:    Microsoft ISA Server Control
Event Category:    None
Event ID:    21211

Description:
A new configuration cannot be loaded, and configuration settings have been successfully reverted to last known good values. Check previous error events for possible reasons for the failure. The error description is: Some configuration changes were not applied. See the Windows event viewer for more details.

quote:

Event Type:    Warning
Event Source:    Microsoft ISA Server Web Proxy
Event Category:    None
Event ID:    14148
Description:
The Web Proxy filter failed to bind its socket to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx port 8080. This may have been caused by another service that is already using the same port or by a network adapter that is not functional. To resolve this issue, restart the Microsoft Firewall service. The error code specified in the data area of the event properties indicates the cause of the failure.

I believe I have corrected the problem... which is actually why I made this post, I bet there are other people using IBM Servers & ISA

I ran sysinternals tcpview to determine which service was using port 8080

Found out the exe name was miniwinagent.exe which was bound to port 8080

Fired up the google and found a post someone made Which basically says this application is non-critical portion of the IBM Raid software installed in version 8.30

After doing all of that, I removed the rules / listerner that I created (they were corrupt maybe?).  Then I rebooted again (I doubt reboots are really needed like I'm doing but ISA 2006 seems kind of weird about what takes place when a service is restarted vs when the entire server is restarted). When the box came back up my event log was clean. I re-created my rules with out errors... and now everything appears to be happy.

--edit--
Nope... two minutes after creating the new rule / listener the same error about not being able to upload the configs pops back.

Still researching, but help is appreciated

Is this ISA SE or EE?

Thanks!

something else that is very strange...

I have no problem at all when I create an access rule, it's only web publishing rules that freak out.

And as soon as I remove the web publishing rule the error stops appearing in the event long.

Maybe enterprise policy is configured to not allow publishing rules.

HTH,
Tom

Not that I can tell... this is a brand new install (actually in a dev environment)

The only rule I've created is the web publish rule.

Unless somehow the system rules are causing this to not be allowed...

The default deny all rule is applied AFTER the array rules, there are no entprise rules that I can see which apply before array rules.

Also the storage server and the array server are on the same machine

There is an enterprise policy option that can be set to allow or disallow publishing rules, that's what you should check for.

I see where I have enterprise policy options on the Array... see screen shot.

But looking at it, I would think that the check mark next to "Publishing rules ("Deny" and "Allow")  would mean I can create publishing rules on my array.

is this what you are talking about?

By the way... thank you greatly for the help

Well I couldn't think of anything else to do so I uninstalled all of ISA and then installed the content storage server & the array server separately.

Now everything works.

Why... it didnt work to begin with I couldn't tell you.

That was the right dialog box. :)

Sometimes starting over is the only way to expunge the demons of a horked install.

Good to hear you got it working and thanks for the follow up!

This was actually my third install... second reinstall.

What I did differently this time was to seperate the two components storage server and array server.

It works now, but I wish I could figure out what make it break to begin with

Maybe it was trying to make you conform to best practices?
