Hi folks

I have migrated a SBS 2003 with ISA 2004 to new hardware using Storage Craft Shadow Protect and after this migration I am no longer able to PPTP into the server from a remote network. This used to work fine.

ADSL device is a cisco 877 which the SBS box connects to. There is a /29 range of public IPs.

I have ensured that the network adapters are listed correctly in the registry under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Parameters\Interfaces. I have ensured that the Lan adapter listed in the above reg key is listed as the LANNIC in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer key also.

I have rerun the CEICW a number of times to ensure that the VPN firewall rule is configured. I can see this rule configured as a system policy which appears to be Ok. I have monitored the connection using the ISA server logging tab and can see the connection on port 1723.

The detail of the connection is:
Initiated connection:
Log Type: Firewall Service
Status: The operation completed successfully
Rule: Allow VPN Client Traffic to ISA Server
Source: External (203.x.x.x:32228)
Destination: LocalHost (203.x.x.x:1723)
Protocol: PPTP

The windows client receives an error 800. I have tested this external to the network from a 3rd party server and also by assigning my PC an available public IP. The cisco device is not the problem as it used to work and nothing has changed on that at all.

If I try to connect a second time the ISA logging tab shows a result code of: 0x80074e24 FWX_E_CONNECTION_KILLED

In complete frustration I uninstalled ISA 2004 completely and then re ran CEICW to turn on the firewall and allow PPTP in which after a reboot worked fine. I also renamed the MSSQL$MSFW folder before reinstalling just in case there was residulal settings which were causing a problem. I have since reinstalled ISA 2004 with SP3 and I am still not able to PPTP in.

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

This issue is resolved. It was fixed by disabling receive side scaling as per the MS KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936594/en-us.

As the new server machine that i imaged the old server to had different network adapters I had to install new network drivers. The new network driver default configuration had RSS configured.

Thanks
