On ISA 2006 we published Exchange 2007.

On the Listener we use forms based authentication.  Under "Advanced Form Options" it has a section for "CLient Security Settings"

It defaults to "Treat as maximum idle time"

The other otpions are "Treat as maximum session duration" which allows you to set (in minutes) the time out for public & private computers.

Can somebody help me understand what "Treat as maximum idle time" means? I see posts stating its the maximum time that if a user is idle it will disconnect - but what is that in minutes? What is the actual time?

Maximum idle time is the timeout setting on the Web listener.

Tom

I guess what I need clarification on is - what is the maximum timeout setting on the web listener?

I do not see any "maximum timeout" settings.

The best I could guess is under authentication/advanced there is a Client Credentials Caching defaulting to 300 seconds.

Is this it? Is it possible to narrow down where this maximum timeout setting is?

Hi Paul,

Its the timeout setting you'll find in the Advanced Properites dialog box on the Web listener.

HTH,
Tom

Tom,
Thanks for your help.  To confirm, I am using ISA 2006.  My Web listener has the following tabs:
General, Networks, Connections, Certificates, Authentication, Forms and SSO.

The only Advanced is under:
1. Connections Tab.  And this is to set the number of allowed connections.
2. Certificates Tab.  And this is for certificates per server on all IP addresses.
3. Authentication Tab. And this is what I mentioned earlier as my best guess - giving a credentials timeout, defaulting to every 300 seconds.
4. Forms tab - which is the selection for "Treat as maximum idle" but does not say what/where this maximum time is?!!?!?

I dont think our clients are timing out at 300 seconds, especially since there seems to be a difference between public and private timeout settings.

What advanced tab are you referring to, and where are these settings for differences of public and private?

Has nobody else looked into timeout settings on ISA 2006 for Exchange publishing?

Tom,

Connections/Advanced in the listener clearly show its for allowed number of concurrent client connections.  I am not clear what this has to do with maximum timeout settings?

To clarify again, I am using ISA 2006.  I am looking for the timeout settings for "Treat as maximum idle time".  What is the maximum idle time?

I am not asking the allowed concurrent client connections or anything related to # of connections.

If you know the answer, please explain what I am missing.

So to beat a dead horse, 1800 seconds = 30 minutes.  So what is the difference between public and private during logon then, if there is only 1 setting for 30 minutes?

The 30 minutes is the max connection time.

Tom
