I'm kind of banging my head against the wall over updating the firewall client configuration.
I have configured ISA2004 firewall client settings (network properties, firewall client tab) such that everything in the "Web Browser Configuration on the Firewall Client computer" is unchecked. I apply the changes to make sure they are set. I then install the firewall client, and IE is configured accordingly (it doesn't use a proxy).
Next I decided that I wanted to use a proxy server, so I go back to the firewall client tab and check the setting "Use a Web proxy server" and apply the changes. I then go to the firewall client and click the "configure now" button... but IE doesn't update. I check the ISA settings, and it shows that proxy is checked. If I uninstall and reinstall the firewall client it now shows IE configured the way I want it (to use a proxy).
Am I missing something here? I was expecting that when I updated the firewall client settings on the ISA server and clicked "configure now" that the client would take the new settings... but it didn't. Have I missed something that I should have done to cause the firewall client to take the new config, am I simply misunderstanding how it is supposed to work... or is there something else going on?
Thanks from an old PIX guy.

Hi Wes,
Did you click the "Test Now" button? Or only the Configure now button?
You need to press the "Test Now" button first to pull the wspad information and then click the "Configure Now" button to apply the settings pulled from the ISA firewall.
HTH, Tom

I did the configure now, but nothing happened. On a whim from talking to someone though, I restarted the firewall services and repeated the process and bam, it took the updates. I've now tested that backwards and forwards and that seems to be the key. Restart the ISA Server Control service and the updates start taking. Go figure.
Thanks Tom

Just tested your recommendation Tom, and of course it was dead on. Thanks again, I was really not liking that a service restart was needed.

Hi Wes,
You bet! Good to hear that you're in the biz of rolling out ISA firewalls. You'll need to check out the new ISA firewall appliances that will be hitting the streets later this year. I think you'll like what you see and the prices can't be beat!
Thanks! Tom
