Dear All,

I am wondering if anyone has come across this problem. I have recently upgrading from ISA 2000 to ISA 2004 on SBS 2003 (SP1) from the SP1 Prem Tech CD and all went ok no errors, ran EICW ok and all is fine.

But.....

Every time i go into the Snap-In / Management Console i get generic Internet Explorer Script Error - "an error has occurred in the script on this page".

This appears on every setting with the console, Monitoring, Firewall Policy, VPN, Configuration...

Please help...

Keith,

first, did you install sp4 on win2000 and also internet explorer 6. The two are Prerequisites

If you have, then try this - open the isa console go to FILE => OPTIONS & choose DELETE FILES, these are profile files that are stored with changes to console

Thanks for the reply but you do know that i am running Windows 2003 (on Small Business Server 2003) and yes i.e 6 is installed and fully patched up to date

Hi,

Mmmh, so much for helping without reading through?

Did you try this

To test whether the problem is with the console or isa installation itself you can open MMC (START ==> RUN ==> MMC) then go to FILE ==> ADD/REMOVE SNAP-IN under the stand alone page choose ADD ==> MICROSOFT ISA SERVER ==> ADD ==> OK

Now run through the ISA snap-in and see if it works, if it does, then close the mmc without saving changes, open isa thru the normal process and go to FILE => OPTIONS & choose DELETE FILES, these are profile files that are stored with changes to console. When you then restart the isa console it will work.

It worked for me once, otherwise i do not want to hog your opportunity to get the Gurus' attention

If by Guru you mean Tom, AFAIK he really abhors server consolidation and SBS falls into that category.
It does sound like an MMC issue.

Thanks for the comment and post, i have tried what you asked and.... deleted the Profile / Files did not work. Also Adding via a manual MMC still appears

Thanks for your comments, but Small Business Server is NOT server consolidation, it is designed for Small Businesses that can not afford the enterprise licsensing and can not afford to have 5 servers to carry tasks out.

I find your comments very limited, Tom has wrote numerious documents on ISA 2004 for SBS 2003 not only on this web site but also for SMB Nation, i regard him as the fore-front expert on ISA and hopefully he will have some ideas on troubleshooting the issue rather than just making comments on the lack of knowledge on SBS 2003

Keith,

Was this a fresh install or an overwrite? You may need to do elimination by first making sure that the CD is installing properly - run a fresh install on a workstation (its only two hours of ur time at most but you'll be sure.)

In the meantime, try to reinstall MMC by reinstalling server tools. Microsoft's step-by-step here http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=829622

If that works, great, if it doesn't then the next target is isa, you wanna remove it completely and do a fresh install - you do not want to go through all this only to realize later that the CD has issues, test it first. You can do isa backup but i'd suggest you configure it afresh

Hi again

thanks for the email this was not a fresh install but rather an upgrade (as mentioned in the orginal post). M/S released a SBS 2003 SP1 CD which inculdes a custom ISA 2004 for SBS 2004, a different .EXE file. The problem is related to this CD, i tried installing the ISA 2004 standard CD with the same problem.

I managed to fix the issue by manually copying over files fromt he ISA 2004 standard edition to the SBS and then by doing a "modify2 / repir on the SBS 2003 ISA 2004 install.

Hi Keith,

Glad you solved it and let us know the problem. I hope the file mix-up does not make your isa box or the application unstable and give you downtime you do not need later on.

You probably need to get yourself a working CD, that's what you paid for, problems crop up when you least expect them, like 6 months down the line when a patch is released.
