Currently we are running the ISA 2000 FW client and I have it installing via GPO.

Anyone know how best to update this client to 2004? Shoudl I uninstall via GPO and install 2004 via GPO? Update via GPO? etc.

I am planning on installing ISA 2004 and letting my folks use the 2000 client initially. That should work correct?

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

If you use Group Policy software management, you should be able to upgrade via the GP. I haven't doc'd it out yet, but I'll give it a try and see what happens.

You can still use the ISA 2000 Firewall clients while you're waiting for the upgrade.

HTH,
Tom

Well, here is what I have come up with:

1. A GPO to install FWC 2004 fails if FWC client 2001 is installed.
2. A GPO to install FWC 2004 fails if an upgrade is chosen with an uninstall of the prior GPO if the original client was installed manually or the location of the msi has changed.

SO, the best thing I have figured is to:
1. Add a GPO to upgrade the prior GPO (CAN be in the same GPO BTW) WITH an unistall.
2. Force a redeployment of FWC 2001 from a shared directory in the GPO.

This forces a reinstall of the FWC 2001 from a known location, the FWC install then removes it and installs the 2004 FWC.

Havcing said all of that I have not tried it on a large scale....

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the doing the footwork on this! I'll check it out. Good point regarding the changing of the share location! I would have tested it from the same location otherwise.

Thanks!
Tom
