Hi,
I have to allow inbound calls at a certain port from a certain machine. I make a new protocol which gets displayed in the User-defined protocols. So far, so good. Now, I make a new policy and select "Selected". In the list of protocols, User-defined always appears as empty. Now, is there any workaround for this?
Thanks, -Usman

Hi Usman,
It sounds like you want to create a server publishing rule? If so, make sure the primary connection is "inbound".

I've found that this only happens when trying to create a rule and the protocol is defined in the opposite direction. In other words, publishing a server with a protocol defined as outbound or creating an access rule with a protocol defined as inbound. Instead of allowing the mistake, ISA simply hides protocols that can't be used in that type of rule.

Gotcha, thanks! I did create 2 inbound rules, my only other question is, how can I delete them? There doesnt seem to be an interface that allows me to do that.

Hi Matt,
That's right, what Bunshaw said. When you use the publishing wizard, it automaticlally makes available only protocols that allow the correct direction.
If you want to delete a rule, just right click it and click Delete. Then click Apply and the changes will be saved to the firewall policy.
