I ahve ISA server 2006 running on windows 2003 standard edition. How do I generate report for badwidth consumed by each user ? I don't want it by IP address. I want it by User Names.

I am in an educational institute so don't want third party costly software.

Hi,

you have to enable authentication on your access rules (Place All Authenticated users group, instead of All Users) and set up clients either FWC or web proxy or even both.

Note: SecureNAT clients canīt authenticate against ISA Firewall.

Paulo Oliveira.

Paulo ! Thanks for your reply !

Ours is a very simple setup. I have windows server 2003  & 60 win XP computers connected  to it in the same room. It is a computer lab.
Every user  logs on to this domain controller (which is also my ISA server 2006 proxy server cum firewall).

I have a limited bandwiadth of 20 GB per month. After that the ISP charges very heavily on every MB used there after. So I want to know which user is consuming how much bandwidth (& also if I can restrict after specific amount of usage if possible) .

currently I am getting it IP address wise usage report , but I want it userwise.

In my ISA onlu authentiated users are allowed.
Will I have to install anything on client computer to get this ? or do I need to change any configuration settings to get userwise usage report ?

Please reply.

Hi,

you either have to configure clients as firewall clients (FWC) or web proxy clients, because secureNAT clients can not authenticate against ISA.

For more information about ISA client types: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/bb794762.aspx

You can find deployment considerations for each ISA client.

I also advice you to take a look at bandwidth splitter. It can control bandwith and quota for users.
