Dear Thomas,

I was reading your article (Using Outlook 2003 with the Firewall Client) in which you explain how to configure ISA Server/Firewall Client to work with Outlook. In that article you say "You do NOT need the Firewall client to access outbound SMTP or POP3" but you do not explain how.
I would like to use my OutLook to connect my external POP3/SMTP server but I don't want to use the ISA firewall client (if I can).

Could you please help me?

regards

Alberto

Hi Alberto,

configure the client as SecureNAT client and make sure you have an acces rule allowing the POP3 and SMTP protocols for all users or a computer set (IP addresses).

BTW --- don't forget that SecureNAT clients must be able to resolve external FQDN's themselves.

HTH,
Stefaan

Stefaan, thank you for your reply.

I can add few infos for you. I have an administrative profile so I am enabled to everything on Isa Server 2004 (all protocols in all directions).

I configured an esternal DNS on my client but nothing works.

Probably I am missing something ...
What are the steps to configure a SecureNAT?
I am reading tons of articles with philosophical thoughts but I would simple configure my PC so that my Outlook 2003 can access outbound SMTP/POP3 emails, without the need of ISA Firewall client.

regards

Alberto
