I am trying to get Remote Desktop working correctly over my PPTP VPN through ISA. The VPN is working fine, and when I have no rules enabled I can connect to XPPro machines running RDC but when I make a rule to only allow 3389, it breaks. My rule is allowing 3389 TCP from VPN Clients to Internal for all users - do I need a rule for return traffic or am I missing something else?

Hi Dantel,

Try starting the RDP client in console mode.

I did some Googling on this and after reading a little, I am not sure what is to be gained by trying this mode - does it use a different port?
I have a similar access rule on a Cisco router and tcp 3389 is all that is required to connect to many 2000/2003 Servers and XP Desktops.
