Hi There,

I'm trying to get the web proxy on ISA 2004 to respond to https requests. I need to allow validated access to the internet from machines that are not members of the domain but whoose users have domain accounts.

I can't leave the passwords unencrypted when they log on, and i'm sure that this should work, but whenever i enable the SSL option on the internal network object (leaving it at port 8443) and then set my client (IE6+patches on windows xpsp1a+patches) the browser just stops - it deosn't even come back with an error message...

The only things that i can think of that might be going wrong:

1. i'm giving the browser the connectionn information in the wrong format. Does it need anything more than just the server name to make it us SSL for the connection?

2. The cetificate i've given the proxy server is somehow the wrong type. It is the one that my web server uses for SSL and is from a trusted autority but i'm not certain what "uses" need to be granted to it or what name needs to be on it as i can find no documentatin at all.

3. I have mis-understood what the SSL checkbox means it is not possible connect to the web proxy over an SSL link.

Any insight you can give me would be much appreciated.

Dominic

Hi Dominic,

IE does NOT support SSL to the Web proxy. Use integrated authentication and the user credentails will be secure.

Tom

Thanks for coming back to me Tom.

Will the integrated still be secure when accessing the proxy from a client that is not a domain member?

Hi Dominic,

Yes, integreted auth is secure. The only difference with non-domain members is that it won't be transparent, so they'll be presented with an authentication dialog box.
