Hiya,
I give up and need your help guys. I followed all tom's tips in setting up a client VPN-connection. All goes well untill i try to connect to a share. It gives me "the network location cannot be reached". I can ping all servers by name and ip-adres. Nslookup fails (although I have tried entering it manually). I've installed DHCP relay server under RRAS. If I go to network places, I can only see my own workgroup. The ipconfig /all gives the pptp interface a valid ip-adres, but the subnetmask is wrong (255.255.255.255. instead of 255.255.240.0)??? I can get outlook working with the exchange servers name. i have IP-routing enabled......... What am I doing wrong....

Hi Coninck,

It sounds like a NetBIOS name resolution problem. Also, if you're only seeing the machines in the workgroup, try joining the machine to the domain and see if that improves matters.

To help the NetBIOS name resolution problem, make sure the VPN client has a WINS server address. Just configure the internal interface of the ISA Server with a WINS address and it should be assigned to the VPN client. Or, configure the DHCP Relay Agent on the ISA Server and configure a WINS server for the appropriate scope.

HTH,
Tom
