I have a trouble that suddenly happend out of nowhere. My Windows XP VPN clients cannot resolve the computers name in the internal network. But Windows Vista VPN clients can do it. Even when using complete names Computer1.domaine.com

What can it be?

Thanks

When you do a nslookup on the XP VPN clients when connected, what do you see?

I get the external NIC card IP address. Not an actual internal server ip.

My god this is ackward.

I've tried many things, like configuriing the Internal DNS server ip manually on the VPN connection on the client, it did not work. But when I returned to DHCP option, it made a difference. Now I can nslookup any server. But it still bugs me.

I use the "Use the default gateway" option on the VPN connection. Using this was working correctly untill recently. Now when I uncheck it, I can't resolve any internal computer names, if I check it, it works perfectly. Until recently, I did not have to check on uncheck it to make it work, it did work in both situation...

Thanks for the help

Ok, now I know. It's the split DNS VPN issue. Seems that Microsoft fixed that in Vista.

I know what you mean. It almost seems random. However, if you implement the fix in Stefaan Pouseele's blog, you'll fix it permanently.

HTH,
Tom
