We are running ISA Svr 2006 SE (server is a domain member). We have a web development server behind the firewall to which we wish to grant VPN access to an external developer so that the developer can do whatever it is he needs to do.

I set up a guest account (Domain User, not Domain Guest) and he could authenticate but he kept getting booted out. Nor could he access anything (files or directories) on the network although he could view our internal website. After a little gnashing of teeth the answer struck me (or, as Carlos Mencia would say, I had a "di di di" moment) - his computer was not part of the domain. I have VPN access on my home PC but it is a domain member and things work dandily.

Then I thought, "You know, I really haven't the foggiest clue what to do in these circumstances". Can anyone help me set things up so that my developer can do what he needs to do? Does he have to be a domain member to share files, for example? Is there some other way to do this perhaps? It is purely web development but we're using Community Server and the database is only accessible on the development server for now.

Hi Carl,

If the user needs access to file shares, then he needs to be able to authenticate. In this case, there should be a log on dialog box presented to the user when he tries to connect to the File share.
