Hi,

Testing Isa 2k & 2k4 is possible using Vmware and a home Adsl Connection (dhcp).
Vmware provides NAT services that you can use and you don't need a router.
I describe the basics steps to set up internet connectivity between the Nics (before installing Isa) using the Vmware virtual networks.

Hope this will help and any feedback is welcome.

Thanks,

Christian

Hi Christian,

Do you use the NAT feature because the host operating system is the machine that is connected to the Internet?

I have never tested that config. The host OS is always a machine on the internal network and I've never needed to use the NAT function, which has always worked nicely for me.

Thanks!
Tom

Hi Tom,

Actually this is the point. The host is the machine that provides the internet resources to the guest (virtual) machines through the NAT features of Vmware.

It's very useful in the case you have a single home workstation connected to the internet, Vmware allows to create a small MS network (4 to 5 guests) including Isa at almost no cost.

I usually use it as described for testing purposes or to present a premiminary or comparative study. Of course nothing is worth a real network environment but to begin a study it gives good results.

Thanks,

Christian
