We have an ISA 2006 with 2 NICs in it.
NIC 1 (Internal) 10.5.84.x/255.255.252.0
NIC 2 (DMZ) 192.168.199.x/255.255.255.0

Clients get given an IP on the DMZ via a wireless network.
The ISA has DHCP and DNS installed on it.

The ISA has Web Proxy enabled on Port 80 on the DMZ interface.
It also has Automatic Publish setup on Port 80 also.

I can successfully get an IP on the client, but I cannot get the internet.
Our upsetream proxy services are working fine and if I sit on the server itself, I can get the upstream internet connection.

We are putting in this service and we want to use WPAD but after reading about it I'm just totally confused about it.

I'm sure I'm missing something simple but when I go http://ISA/wpad.dat - I don't get anything, it gives me a 404.

So what I'm asking, is there almost like an idiots guide for WPAD or is there some way I can diagnose the problems I'm having?

Thanks,

A.

I don't believe you can publish the proxy on port 80 and have the auto-config web service enabled. Why are you publishing the proxy on port 80? 8080 is the standard port for proxy. What happens if you change the proxy port - can you get the WPAD.DAT file?

ISA Server uses 8080 per default but now if you are using DNS server it has to be on port 80. This can be changed within ISA settings.
Myself I only use DHCP with the default port, 8080 and I have no problem.
Clients receives WPAD information when they get a new IP.

This article should give you everything you need
