We have three residential houses which each have an ADSL connection via individual ISA2006 servers for our 150 boarding students to use wireless internet. As the laptops belong to the students & not the School we are not able to change configuration settings (e.g. workgroup to domain membership). The problem I am getting is that when our students jet off around the world for the holidays we are swamped with requests to remove the proxy settings & when they return we are again swamped with requests to give them access.

After days of research i feel the way to go is to use WPAD over DHCP as each client pc has a reserved IP address which links it to the relevant server. I have configured the 252 option as explained in the guide: http://www.isaserver.org/tutorials/Configuring-WPAD-Support-ISA-Firewall-Web-Proxy-Firewall-Clients.html This works fine if the client PC is part of the domain but if the pc is a workgroup pc I do not get the authentication box so am not getting Internet access on Workgroup pcs. We need to have the authentication set as the internet access is controlled due to the nature of the users.

I have checked this out on our main domain & get the same results - my pc autodiscovers the Proxy info & connects with no problems but my laptop which is a workgoup laptop does not.

Any help would be greatfully received.
