I am getting RPC connection failure errors on a default install of ISA 2006 std. Server is Windows 2003 R2 Std, + all patches up to 24th April 2007. Error is between the ISA itself and the domain controller, log entry below: Transport: TCP Source IP: 192.168.1.22:1112 Destination IP: 192.168.1.21:135 Rule: [System] Allow RPC from ISA Server to trusted servers RPC (all interfaces) Source Network: Local Host Destination Network: Internal Result: Failed Error Code: 0x8007274c WSAETIMEDOUT I spotted this error because after installing update 934238 and rebooting, I found that the web proxy service was unable to authenticate users. (in fact any rule requiring user authentication didn’t work) Has anyone else seen this error? thanks, Simon.

Yes, but only one "This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller", I guess this corresponds to both the inability to connect via RPC to the domain controller, and also to authenticate users?

Yup, been caught out by that one before. Not the cause this time though. I've had to rebuild in the end, so I guess I never will find out what this one was... thanks anyway, Simon.

I know it's slightly unconventional to post replies to your own questions, but I thought just for completeness... This is just another facet of the 2003 Server SP2 / ISA 2006 issue, the KB article is: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927695 Add the EnableRSS entry to the registry, and all your RPC errors will go away. I have tested this on four or five ISA 2006 servers now, and it has worked in all cases. (interestingly I've had another two servers that were unaffected by SP2) Simon.
