I've got an issue where local clients cannot browse to http://127.0.0.1. ISA Server seems to keep picking it up through the web proxy client and trying to route it through the firewall:

quote:

Original Client IP Service Server Name Destination Host Name Transport HTTP Method Source Port Result Code HTTP Status Code Cache Information Error Information Log Record Type Log Time Action Protocol Destination IP Client IP Rule Destination Port Source Network Destination Network URL
0.0.0.0 Proxy FIREWALL 127.0.0.1 TCP GET 0 12202 The ISA Server denied the specified Uniform Resource Locator (URL). 0x0 0x880 Web Proxy Filter 1/26/2005 12:20 Denied Connection http 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.20 Default rule 8080 Internal Local Host http://127.0.0.1/
192.168.1.20 FIREWALL TCP - 3955 0x80074e20 0x0 0x0 Firewall 1/26/2005 12:20 Closed Connection Unidentified IP Traffic 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.20 8080 Internal Local Host -

I've got the bypass local address option enable on the web browser. The firewall client is installed and the web proxy configuration is enabled.

The browser returns the following error:

quote:

Error Code: 502 Proxy Error. The ISA Server denied the specified Uniform Resource Locator (URL). (12202)
IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Date: 1/26/2005 5:23:07 PM
Server: firewall.perimeter.mydomain.net
Source: proxy

If I disable the proxy configuration in IE it works fine. However, if I attempt to use http://localhost it works fine. I need to use http://127.0.0.1 because it is hard coded into the application I'm trying to access.

Any thoughts on enabling this?

Thanks,
Colin

Hi Colin,

The ISA firewall will definitely not proxy connections to the local host address or Network. What would the value of doing so be? You could configure that Network ID for Direct Access, so that the Web Proxy is automatically bypassed if you need access to a Web site on the local machine.

HTH,
Tom

Hi Tom,

I'm thinking the same thing. My objective here is to ensure that the ISA Server / Web Proxy client doesn't attempt to route these addresses. That being said it insists on trying to do so and thus causes the above issues. I can't figure out what is telling ISA Server to pick it up. I tried to add 127.0.0.1 to the Internal network object but it tells me the Local Host already includes it.

I think the web proxy client picks it up and routes it to the ISA Server because of that Local Host object, although I'm not 100% sure on that. In any event I'd like it not to route to the ISA Server and resolve locally. It does that without the web proxy client enabled but then that kills the benefits of the web proxy client.

Any thoughts on what rules might be causing 127.0.0.1 to route to the ISA Server?

Cheers,
Colin
