I know there are some similar posts on this already, but I believe the solution I am looking for doesn't match the previous posting.

My situation is that when you’re outside of our network (At home etc) you can access one of my company’s web sites by going to http://forexample.com/employeearea
You are then prompted for a username and password which allows you access. You can then browse around that particular site with ease and are no longer prompted for a username and password when going to different pages.

But, when surfing the same web site INSIDE our network (One of the companies workstations) you are constantly asked for your username and password repeatedly over and over. Some times even prompted 4 times just to see one page?

Now I know this problem is caused by incorrect configuration due to my lack of ISA skills. But that’s the beauty of having so many smart people on this web site to help!

I appreciate your help in advance and look forward to a response.

Brandon

P.S. Even when I have called Microsoft directly to help with resolving matters pertaining to ISA 2006 and Windows 2003 SP2. They told me that isaserver.org was there first place they look for answers on any ISA issues!!!

Brandon,

Couple of questions first if I may :-)

1. Are you using the ISA web proxy internally?
2. Do you have any IE exceptions set describing your internal sites. Is the internal site in question http://myinternalexample.com/employeearea (or *.myinternalexample.com) in the IE proxy exceptions list?

Regards,
Mylo

Yes, I am using the ISA as the web proxy. I set it up in the group policies so that all PC's inside the network are forced to use the ISA as its only way out.

And second, the web site is accessed externally by http://myinternalexample.com/employeearea or
http://www.myinternalexample.com/emplyeearea

But internally only by
http://myinteranlexcample.com/employeearea
When I use www in front I won’t work?

As for setting up the IE exceptions I am not sure what to do there???

Look forward to all the help I can get

Thank you!

Brandon

Brandon,

With Internal sites you don't necessarily want the proxy to handle authentication requests. Check out:

Tools|Internet Options|Connections|LAN Settings

In the LAN settings section:

1. If you've specified the proxy here under this setting then you can add local exceptions and use the bypass local proxy feature
2. If you're using the AutoDiscovery setting by default you can use WPAD and PAC files to perform proxy auto configuration

Mylo

I have it already set to bypass the proxy for local addresses. I even tried using the advance tab to manually enter the IP address. But unfortunately I am still getting the ridiculously amount of prompts when trying to access the web site internally. (Everything works beautifully outside of the office)

Brandon,

Are you doing integrated auth or basic auth on the website?

The developer set up the web site with:
Windows Authentication and
Digest Authentication

Basic Authentication is not used.

If there is anymore info I can provide to resolve this issue, please let me know.

Thank you

Brandon,

May I ask what you are using Digest auth for?
What are you seeing on the web logs on IIS? Can you post a snippet back here on the forums?

Mylo

The developer has changed it to Integrated Windows Authentication only. But I am still experiencing the same problems...

Brandon,

What does your IE exceptions settings actually say.. are you using IP addresses or the FQDN for your domain (e.g. *.myad.com)?

Also, check out the error logs on the web server, what are the 400 errors you're getting (e.g. 401.1).. can you provide a log excerpt?

Regards,
Mylo
