Our ISA server has a web publishing rule applied to its external interface, that redirects traffic to an internal web server. The ISA server and web server are two completely different servers.

In the event log of the ISA server, are two events: Firstly event ID 14148 - Web Proxy service failed to bind to its socket, and secondly 14186 - The Web Proxy service started successfully.

Does this indicate there is actually a problem? Or should I just ignore it.

Is the publishing working? Does the ISA server has IIS loaded? It kind of sounds like you have a port conflict where both ISA and IIS on the ISA server are trying to listed on port 80 on the external interface. If the ISA server has IIS either remove it or set the web sites in the IIS manager to bind only to the internal IP address.

Thanks for the suggestions.

No, IIS isn't installed on the ISA server, and when I telnet into the external IP on port 80, I get redirected to the server I published via ISA.

The event ID only appears in the log during service/server startup now.

Is there anything else I could check for?

This still sounds like a port conflict. Try this: Stop all the ISA services and then run netstat -an at a command prompt. See if ports 80 and/or 8080 are bound to any IP addresses.

If they are you will need to try to find is using them. If they are not bound to anything I am out of ideas...
